This Highly Prized Ru-Kiln Meiping Formed Vase is among the first group of wares that were commissioned by the Emperor in Chinese history, they were made exclusively for Emperor Huizong and his Chinese Court. Ru Imperial official wares with the simple aspects of finely potted modest and refined forms, with modest celadon glaze, set the scene of elegance for the Song Dynasty Court. This Meiping Formed Vase measures 10 1/4" tall it has a very refined balanced form. The base has two words incised Feng Hua which means Tribute to China. The glaze has crushed agate powder added in the mix, this made the glaze unique because only Emperors Huizong commissioned Imperial Ru wares used agate in the glaze. There was two separate groups of Imperial commissioned Ru wares by Emperor Huizong, the first group of wares are very modest and refined, the second group the wares are very elegant and luxurious. Both groups of wares you can see traces of agate flakes in the glaze with a 20x power loupe under the right lighting. This Meiping Formed Ru Vase was made with a fine grayish body that has turned brown on the foot after firing. The beautiful luminous celadon glaze has a natural feel and a fine cracked ice crackle that can be seen using a loupe.This piece is from a surviving hoard of N. Song Imperial Ru-Ware!!!
